I could help if you wanted to relocate from Olde England to New England.

I know that feel.

A few weeks ago I got a part time job working for an art studio and then they changed their mind... before I could start working.

I know that feel. How long have you been at it?

Looking for a job is one of the most emotionally exhausting things a person can do. The longer it goes on, the worse it gets. You are always in the dark on everything and praying that, somehow, what your resume and cover letter say will align with what a single person in HR wants to hear - and that may not even be what the hiring person is looking for.

Ah man that sucks. I graduated early September but started looking before then. Last worked part time in July. I’ve only had one interview recently but the job wasn’t what I thought it was so it didn’t go any further.

I think a lot of people know the feels because the job market is awful right now.

A few months, but I also just finished an extremely draining degree so I’m pretty much burnt out. It’s all based on hopes and waiting and applications that can sometimes take several hours. Like you say, not a nice process.

Better now than it has been in the past 5 years. After weathering 2008 to 2011 shit looks like a god damn winfall of jobs out there, the problem for most people though may be the need to relocate to find said jobs. Also the wages are more or less the same or worse than before 2008, often worse... But there are jobs! tons of jobs.. they just either suck or pay shit.. but they exist..

If a Sagaris is a metaphor for your insanity, what car would represent your sane state? A Honda Accord? Lexus ES 350?

That may be in the US but in the UK it pretty much sucks. Almost everyone I know is working terrible hours (like 8 hours a week) or is unemployed. These aren’t slackers either, many of these people have degrees...

Yeah, I graduated grad school in May and still looking.

I’ve had a few art shows and working on a video game with a friend, that keeps me somewhat sane. I hate this whole process, but whaddya gonna do, just keep trying and networking...

A stock mk 2 Focus. One of the most basic, sensible, sane cars I can think of.

Yeah I’ve been there a few times before, and the very first time was more than enough for one lifetime, IMO.

Good luck out there, hope you don’t have to wait too much longer.

I applied to ~1200 jobs before I landed a good one. Worked as a teller in a bank in the meantime. Whatever you do, don’t be stagnant.

You know Rolls Royce(the other half not the BMW auto branch) is doing a huge gear up for a new nuclear program, have you looked into them at all? not sure where you are in the UK but a buddy here in the state just got a job with them in that department doing some kind of mechanical engineering and says the UK side of the team is also gearing up for hires still. not sure if that helps, but that’s a hell of a company to get your foot into, depending on what aspects of mechanical engineering you’re into.

Going through the job application process is just awful. I always feel so demeaned by it. I almost never get any response one way or another after applying to jobs online. It feels pointless.

I recommended this to kailand09 earlier. Get on LinkedIn (or google) and find people doing what you would like to be doing. Contact them and ask them if they would be willing to tell you about their job and industry. Do not say you are looking for a job! You are doing research on possible career paths. Just be interested in them and what they do. Ask if they have time for a phone call or skype, or even meet for lunch or coffee before work.

Good luck and hang in there. It’s a numbers game, like dating.

Had the chance while cutting London to see a TVR Tuscan in that shimmering green purple paint they use. Quite noisy too.
